Mugshot Monday #3

I still have about a half hour until midnight as I write this but I can’t seem to fix what date will post when I actually publish this. It’s still Monday as I write this, I promise you!!

This morning as I got ready for work, I took some lovely sips of a coconut mocha from a Disney Store mug again:

It’s moments like these I’m glad Star Wars is now owned by Disney; I get to buy Star Wars things from the Disney Store!!!

This adorable comic-book-ish style mug is of my favorite droid, R2-D2!! And yes, behind my mug that is Luke Skywalker on a blanket that one of my best friends gave to me for Christmas. I have awesome friends who love me and obviously know me very well.

“Hey babe, your hair’s alright. Hey babe, let’s go out tonight”

Today is Ahsoka Day!! I’ve actually already written about how awesome Ahsoka Tano is on here before for no particular reason, but because today is her day, I will gladly do it again.

Ahsoka Tano means a lot to me, and my admiration and love for this character honestly took me by surprise. On this day in 2008, she made her debut in the Star Wars universe. While the Clone Wars series was actually on air, I was hesitant to watch it, worried any characters would disappoint me. I am so thankful for Hot Topic and Her Universe; without knowing about how awesome Ashley Eckstein is, I don’t know what else would have brought me to the show. Just in case you didn’t know, Ashley Eckstein is the voice of Ahsoka Tano, both as Anakin Skywalker’s teen padawan on Clone Wars back then and as the older, wiser, even more badass Torguta-Jedi on Rebels now. But she’s not just an amazing voice actress; she is an amazing fangirl herself who started a clothing line catering to all the wonderful nerdy women out there…like myself, of course. As I became this huge Ashley Eckstein fan, I felt bad and even less of a supporter of hers not knowing diddly squat about Ahsoka. I ended up looking up everything about her online, but I decided I still wanted to watch at least a bit of the series, to at least get a taste. I’m actually quite happy to say that I couldn’t stop and I fell in love with the Clone Wars series and Ahsoka Tano herself.

Why do I love Ahsoka? It’s hard to pick even just a few reasons, but I will try to start:

  • She’s a Torgruta; she’s naturally awesome-looking and quite beautiful. It’s always fun for me to look at the non-human characters in Star Wars
  • She’s a strong, independent Torgruta Jedi that don’t need no man…but seriously, she can kick anybody’s ass
  • She uses two lightsabers which used to annoy me but then I just decided I liked it. It is merely dependent on Jedi preference.
  • She’s feisty but is also still sweet and gentle
  • As Anakin’s padawan learner, she kinda takes after him. They had a beautiful older brother and little sister relationship
  • Sure, she started out with tube top, but she eventually graduated to her maroon-ish tunic with those funky sleeves and I think that suits her much better
  • Ashley Eckstein has a fantastic voice, from spunky teenager to sage Jedi woman, her voice is just always perfect for Ahsoka.
Here is my Ahsoka collection…it’s small, but it has only just begun:

You may recognize the ballerina print by Ashley Taylor from one of my recent posts, as well as my little Disney Infinity Ahsoka. The shirt on the left isn’t official, but it’s still damn cute. It’s from LookHuman.com. The “AHSOKA LIVES” is of course from Her Universe, celebrating the fact that Ahsoka survived Order 66 and continues to fight on in Rebels. However, I ordered it too small so I can’t wear it until I do some things I found on Pinterest. And the card? That is autographed by Ashley Eckstein herself!! You know what’s even cooler? She also signs as Ahsoka Tano underneath her name. And the coolest thing about it? That was a Christmas present from two of my best friends; they love me and they are awesome.

“People let me tell you about my beeest friend,”

PSSSSTTTT….the sweater I’m wearing has R2-D2 and is of course by Her Universe.

But anyway…HAPPY AHSOKA DAY!!!!

And…not exactly Ahsoka news but still Star Wars, today I received the print I ordered from http://www.spooksieboo.bigcartel.com/ and it’s perfection.

Yes, that’s our sweet Finn. FN-2187. It’s weird, because I have fainted at both the sight and just the mere thought of blood, but the blood on Finn’s stormtrooper helmet is just one of the coolest images in Star Wars history to me. And look at the little melted Darth Vader pin!! The lovely artist just threw that in there as an awesome freebie!!

Need a better look??

Mugshot Monday #1

As you may know by now, I’m a woman of many obsessions. I decided that on various Mondays I am going to showcase part of one of my favorite collections: my mugs.

I love mugs. They combine two of my favorite things: coffee and pop culture. Sure, you can put anything in a mug, but coffee is its’ true soulmate.

Some people think that I have way too many mugs. Those people are wrong. However, until I move out into my own bachorlette pad, I can’t use all of my mugs; not all of them will fit in our kitchen cabinets. I have several in my room as décor, a sunglasses holder, and make-up storage for now. It is my way of hiding them so the two people who think I have too many mugs do not necessarily notice and therefore cannot stop me.

Today I present to you my latest mug! This one is just chilling as décor in my room for now not only because of Operation: Hide Half of My Mugs From My Parents, but also because on the box it said “hand wash only”…1) psh, who has time to hand wash their dishes?! 2) if I used it and left it out to hand wash, there’s a good chance two certain people will think I’m being lazy and just throw it in the dishwasher not realize I would have actually had reason not to put it with the rest of the used dishes.

Look at it!!!

Yes, that is C3PO. The Funko Pop! Force Awakens version of him! Back in November, I subscribed to a box subscription called Smugglers’ Bounty. Every other month, you receive a delightful box of exclusive Star Wars Funko Pop! merchandise. The first box I got two of the figures, the second box I got one figure (a fuzzy Chewbacca) and this mug (along with a t-shirt and other goodies, but I just wanted to clarify that the box is not  only giving you the figures they are famous for). Each box has a different Star Wars theme; this box was a Force Awakens: The Resistance theme. I love Threepio with a red arm; “you may not recognize me because of my red arm”. I love the changes he’s went through during all of the films. I love this mug, it’s so adorable. Star Wars + Mugs = Happy Rita.

“Welcome to My Life, Tattoo,”

“We’ve a long time together, me and you,”.

Just kidding. I do not have any tattoos. But I do like them…however, pretty sure my family would disown me if I ever got one (or if they ever found out if I got one…hehe). I think my own semi-secret affinity for tattoos is precisely why I was drawn to my latest Etsy art purchase:

IMG_3518

Tattoos and Star Wars…I’ve admired this piece for a while but waited until after actually seeing The Force Awakens to buy it. I think I saw it first on Instagram and from there found the artist’s Etsy. The adorable little tattoo-style BB-8 is by an artist named Michelle Coffee.

I think I got it last week, and it is shown here with other pieces I ordered from Etsy a while but I’m waiting until I have them arranged perfectly in my mind…I’m trying to do a Disney-Star-Wars-Marvel collection of things on my wall. I’m waiting for another Star Wars inspired print I ordered from http://www.spooksieboo.bigcartel.com  yet another awesome artist I found on Instagram but doesn’t have an Etsy shop that I know of. I don’t know how it started, but I just keep finding these amazing artists and buying their work. There are pieces not shown here that I don’t even have at least partially a plan for, not even 12% of a plan; I just keep helplessly collecting artwork. My dad and my brother are tremendously talented at drawing anything, mostly people…I did not inherit that skill, but I can still admire others who have such talents.

Look at my Ahsoka Tano ballerina…I’m so in love with that piece. That’s by Ashley Taylor, who I also found on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ashley24taylor/ and this was accomplished by either creeping on various Disney or Star Wars pieces. She also did the one of Cher from Clueless and Elle from Legally Blonde. That one doesn’t fit in with my Disney-Star-Wars-Marvel theme, so I don’t even know where I’m going to put that one either! But isn’t it darling?! But anyway, I would love to fill my wall with all of Ashley Taylor’s Star Wars ballerinas but she does not sell them, I think because of some contractual issues (she is a freelance artist and does a lot of work for Disney Blogs). I only acquired the Ahsoka print as a freebie with my purchase of the “Legally Clueless” piece. I have accepted that Ahsoka might be my only Star Wars ballerina I’ll get from Taylor, but I do secretly hope she’ll do another similar promotion because the rest are absolutely exquisite!

And the fancy little Jasmine? https://www.etsy.com/shop/aasilee just another amazing artist  I found on Instagram and then have since purchased on Etsy! See, Jasmine fits in with my little plan. Problem is, I need more Disney to even out how many Star Wars art pieces I’ll have on my wall.. Actually, I do already plan to purchase from yet another Instagram-discovery-artist whose Etsy shop I adore: https://www.etsy.com/shop/18thcenturyshop . She has soooooo many Disney inspired pieces…there’s a Pocahontas one in particular I must have, but I’m waiting until I finalize my plans (it’s a bit bigger than the others so I’m still considering my entire layout) and my next paycheck.

And no, I do not personally know any of these artists. I’m just endorsing them because I love their work. #cantstopbuyingart

“Mudd hole? Slimey? My home, this is!”

Man, I love Yoda.

Recently Hallie and I have been watching all the Star Wars movies in preparation for The Force Awakens…however, we started too late and our schedules haven’t matched up lately so now I’m sitting here watching The Empire Strikes Back by myself. It’s okay, certainly not the first time…but anyway…watching Yoda in the prequels makes watching him here in his original form so much better and quite rewarding. He’s so freaking cute and funny. He is just the best. In Revenge of the Sith, we see his power and strength, yet towards the end he’s all like “exile, I must go. Failed, I have,” and that honestly makes me cry. YOU WILL NEVER FAIL IN MY HEART, SWEET YODA!

And Luke…I love him, but geez is he so mean to Yoda!! Sure, he doesn’t know Yoda is Yoda…but still. It’s okay; he gets his act together once he realizes it…

“She’s a Rebel”

I’m not obsessed with Green Day but hey, they’ve got some good stuff.

Anyway, the rebel I’m thinking about is none other than Ahsoka Tano. For those of you don’t know, she was Anakin Skywalker’s padawan learner in the series Star Wars The Clone Wars, and now she’s on Star Wars: Rebels as a leader of the rebellion against the Empire. She is awesome and I love her. Also, the woman who voices her is the immensely talented Ashley Eckstein, who also designs a clothing line called Her Universe for nerdy women! I’ve probably got a bit of a girl crush but that’s besides the point.

P.S. I’m aware all I’ve talked about today is Star Wars…it is because I just love it so much. But don’t worry, I’ll write about my other obsessions soon enough. This week, though…THE FORCE AWAKENS FINALLY COMES OUT OH MY GOD. My brain is literally just like STAR WARS STAR WARS STAR WARS STAR WARS STAR WARS. And I’m not going to apologize for it.

Back to the awesomeness of Ahsoka Tano…I’m just going through episodes of Clone Wars for kicks and to accommodate my Star Wars needs until Thursday night, and I just love her more every time I watch her. In fact, I love her so much, that I would even let this happen:

more blog things 001

Woody is struck right in the heart (or other places) by my main lady Jedi.

Before I was in love with Luke Skywalker, I declared that Woody was my husband. And yes, I was like 3 when that happened, and nobody in my family will ever forget it therefore I can’t forget it. And it’s okay! Woody is just awesome. Similar to how I disliked Natalie Portman while she was dating Hayden Christiansen, I couldn’t stand Bo Peep. Actually, I STILL can’t stand her…which is why I’m especially angry about the premise of Toy Story 4…but we will save that for another day.

Ahsoka Tano is the only one other than myself worthy for my cowboy.

And yes, I’m obsessed with Disney Infinity…yet another topic for another day! Or at the very least, I’ll post pictures of my collection after I receive the characters from The Force Awakens.

Okay, that’s for all for now! AHSOKA LIVES!!

“She was very beautiful. Kind, but…sad.”

It has taken me several years to get to this point…but I have finally seen the light.

Padme Amidala, late secret wife of Anakin Skywalker, mother of glorious twins Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa, was a strong, badass, amazing woman who honestly doesn’t get enough credit.

Why did it take me several years to finally realize how cool she was, you ask? Well, you see, awkward-middle-school-Rita was madly in love with Hayden Christiansen (what can I say; I like the Skywalker men).  Back then, while us Star Wars fans were waiting for what we thought was going to be the last major Star Wars movie we were ever going to get, I was planning my marriage to the real-life Anakin Sykwalker. And Natalie Portman not only played Hayden’s love in the movies, but they were also dating in real life at the time. So, she was in my way.

Fast forward about a decade later, having watched the prequels over and over AND the animated series Clone Wars (the one that didn’t look exactly like Samurai Jack), I realized that Padme is actually kinda awesome. You can see where Princess Leia gets it from; they are the both damsels in distress that get themselves out of said distress. They are both opinionated and strong-willed and they would probably intimidate the crap out of you in person, but yet they are both just so darling and compassionate that you would probably instantly fall in love.

Also, there’s this moment from Attack of the Clones, where Padme was ahead of the boys pretty much the second they were all chained up:

Padme, like a boss!!!:

Amid my new-found appreciation for the former Queen of Naboo, I found myself angry. Okay, if you read my previous post, you know I love Luke Skywalker. His blue eyes and blue lightsaber still get me every time. But I wished he cared more about his mother. Sure, he asks Leia in Return of the Jedi about her, but that conversation is brief, nor was he concerned about who his mother was before he found out the truth about his family, when he simply thought his father was a pilot. I know, it’s not my sweet Luke’s fault. Uncle Owen and aunt Beru didn’t seem to tell him anything about her either. Sure, they met her only briefly and perhaps they didn’t assume that woman they met that one time was the mother of the sweet baby boy they ended up taking care of. But come on, they should have; I don’t think anyone would bring someone they didn’t really care about when they sense their mother is danger and they must go home. I’m going to mostly blame Owen on this one. Or, really, I should just entirely blame George Lucas. Sure, he didn’t necessarily have the prequels perfectly planned while making the original trilogy, but everyone has a mother. He chose to have the parental focus entirely on Darth Vader, and it just makes me so mad now. I also feel really sad thinking that Luke and Leia know diddly squat about their awesome mother. Actually, I kinda think maybe Leia knew a little bit; after all, Bail Organa was good friends with Padme, it would be kinda wrong if he didn’t tell Leia anything about the woman she truly came from. Alas, we don’t know that for sure and it makes me sad.

Point is, I really want the Skywalker family portrait, guys. I know, it would be a totally different story if Anakin didn’t turn to the Dark Side and Padme hadn’t died just after giving birth to the coolest twins ever, but it’s fun to fantasize about the beautiful, strong, unstoppable family of the Force that would have been.

Recently I started to collect those awesome little Funko Pop! Vinyl figures, and limited myself to Star Wars ones for now in an effort to control my spending…considering they have a billion Disney ones and even Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles characters, I would most definitely be broke by now if I hadn’t set a theme. I promise, this is still quite relevant to Padme. The first one I bought was Princess Leia in her classic white gown. She was so freaking adorable, I couldn’t stop gushing at her. (I know, I’m a bit of a big dork). I also acquired Luke in his all black Return of the Jedi outfit, and decided I needed Padme. I needed Padme to be with her children for once, DAMNIT! The only figure they had of her was in her iconic Queen Amidala form, and of course they were discontinued when I decided I wanted one so I had to go to eBay. But I found her, and Padme can finally be with her awesome children.

Apparently I can’t upload videos on here but please, picture their cute little heads bobbing, as they are bobble-heads. Also, even more importantly, I urge you to listen to “Mother and Child Reunion” by Paul Simon in your head. Or if you don’t know, here it is:

star wars take 2 001

“I am a Jedi, like my father before me,”

Just kidding; my dad doesn’t even give a crap about Star Wars.

BUT I DO.

Guys. Oh my God. Oh. My. FREAKING. GOODNESS. Guys, Star Wars The Force Awakens is only TWO SLEEPS AWAY!!! At least for me, my tickets are for Thursday night. And yes, I stole that from The Muppet Christmas Carol, because this year I’m more excited about the new Star Wars than Christmas, or anything else for that matter. I’m having a beautiful flashback to when I was little and my aunt Adelaida was describing the cover of the original Star Wars VHS tape, which was all black with Vader’s shiny helmet, before it was dubbed A New Hope, over the phone to me. I had no idea what it was but I was incredibly excited for it because of the enthusiasm in my aunt’s voice, and thankfully I was not disappointed. I was in love. I thought Mark Hamill was just the cutest young man ever, that Luke Skywalker was both adorable and badass. I had an ornament of him but my parents haven’t been using our eclectic collection of family ornaments the last few years so I haven’t seen him in a while. However, I’m somewhat making up for it; this year, my parents let me decorate our new mini Christmas tree in all Star Wars ornaments!! Just for this year. But still, I’m so happy about it, looking at it just makes me beam. I would have gotten Luke out for it but he is trapped in storage…but in my heart he is there.

LOOK AT IT, IN ALL OF ITS’ STAR WARS MANIA GLORY:

The round ones I don’t have close-ups of here are from a Force Awakens themed set. Perhaps I’ll post more close-ups in the days to come…
